I guess the main page's discussion is as good a place for our meta-wiki discussions as any...

Wiki Structure

Yesterday (Wednesday 28th) Ghabry and I discussed the article structure of the Wiki. Since it is growing and with more games articles will be duplicated in the global namespace we decided that we should clean it up as soon as possible to a hierarchical layout with sub-pages sorted under their game and topic, and meta-pages

Root pages  Tree pages
----------  ----------

Modding---+--> DO/Modding        //Link
          +--> SotHR/Modding     //Link

Multiplay-+--> DO/Multiplay      //Link
          +--> SotHR/Multiplay   //Link

DO--------+-->> Warhammer: Dark Omen  //Redirect
          |
          +--Maps-----+--B1_01
          |           |
          |           +--B1_02
          |           ...
          |
          +--Modding--+--ARM
          |           |
          |           +--BTB

          |
          |
          +--Multiplay
          ...         ...

SotHR-----+-->> Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat //Redirect
          |
          +--Maps
          |
          +--Modding--+--BTS
          |           |
          |           ...
          +--
          ...

Ghabry went ahead and did this. However, he used colon ":" instead of forward slash "/" to separate the articles. This is bad for two reasons: (1) all articles are now simply longer-named versions of the same rather than in an actual hierarchy, and (2) it disables the MediaWiki hierarchy navigation (when you're in an /article you can reach the previous levels in the breadcrumb trail on the article top). For consistency and terseness we should also want all sub-articles under the abbreviation of the game name ("DO", "SotHR", "STTA"). Is there a nice tool for MediaWiki so we can just rename the current article names since they do follow a strict systematics atm? Mikademus 18:12, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
